Energy Sustainability Islands System of Local Energy Independence for Municipal Infrastructure Facilities

The "Energy Sustainability Islands" project is a comprehensive solution to increase the energy independence of educational, healthcare, water supply, and sewage facilities. It involves the installation of solar power plants (SPPs) at 13 facilities with a total capacity of 1.4 MW.

The Sumy City Territorial Community is the largest community in the Sumy region (351.71 km²), with its center in the city of Sumy (95.39 km²), which is also the administrative center of the region. The community has a population of 263,000 people, including more than 34,000 internally displaced persons. The community possesses a developed social and engineering infrastructure: more than 100 educational institutions, medical facilities, and networks for water supply, sewage, heat supply, and transport — all of which require modernization. In response to current challenges, the community is implementing a sustainable development policy focused on increasing energy efficiency and climate resilience, carrying out the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP).

Expected effect: Annual generation of 1.6 MWh. Reduction of CO₂ emissions by 700 tons/year. Annual savings of more than $0.4 million. Uninterrupted power supply to critical and social infrastructure facilities during emergency situations. Increased climate resilience and a demonstration effect for the community.
