The Reconstruction of the Existing Solid Waste Landfill with the Sorting Line Arrangement

The aim of the investment project is to improve and increase the efficiency of the solid waste management system in the territory of the Horishni Plavni urban territorial community. Total amount of accumulated solid waste at the landfill - over 750 thd t. The landfill waste load is currently over 80%. The issue of operating a solid waste landfill is one of the most important points for the town authorities.

Horishni Plavni urban territorial community (population: 51,292 persons) has a strong economic base thanks to three Ferrexpo Group mining and processing plants, which annually produce about 12 million tons of iron ore, more than 85% of which is exported to 9 EU countries. The light industry and agricultural sector are actively developing, as the territorial community covers 376.2 km². 21 modern institutions of pre-school, general secondary and vocational education, children's and youth sports schools, a music and art school, a palace of culture and creativity, and local history museums. The town hosts a range of festivals that differ in terms of their level and general direction. The community holds a leading position in Ukraine in rowing sports and has a developed sports infrastructure (stadiums, swimming pools, a yacht club, tennis courts). This allows for training international athletes who win prizes at international competitions and the Olympic Games.

PROJECT FUNCTIONS: Improved environmental conditions, reduced soil, water, and air pollution, and a safer environment for living. Creation of at least 16 permanent jobs, as well as temporary employment during the facilities construction and maintenance. Promoting the reduction of waste for landfill, development of sorting, composting, reuse and the circular economy formation. IRR: 13.7%. Payback period: 7 years. NPV: €964.6 thd. PI: 0.07.
